COMMUNITY COLLEGE TUITION ASSISTANCE FOR ADDICTS IN RECOVERY
Ka’imiloa Foundation is a small foundation with a limited amount of yearly funds to offer as tuition assistance to addicts in recovery who are seeking community college education as a step in the path to full recovery.
Eligibility:
Six continuous months clean and sober in a drug and alcohol free residence
Accepted into a community college
Maintenance of a C or better GPA while attending community college
Continued residence in an drug and alcohol free residence while receiving tuition assistance
For Oxford House residents: Recommended by your own Oxford House and by your chapter president
For inmates: Recommended by a person or a program working with inmates to help them achieve college credits
How it works:
Everyone who meets the above criteria and submits an application on time will be considered. There will be no discrimination on the basis of race, religion, or ethnic background.
Tuition assistance recipients will be chosen by random lottery from eligible applicants. One full tuition recipient or two partial tuition recipients will be chosen for Fall, Winter and Spring terms.
Mt Hood Community College, Portland Community College, and Clackamas Community College have agreed that all other applicable aid and grants for which the tuition assistance recipient is qualified will be applied, after which Ka’imiloa will be billed for any remaining tuition and fees. Many Oxford House residents will qualify for various grants and will not need our assistance. Those who qualify for Pell grants will usually have all tuition covered, and will not qualify for Ka'imiloa tuition grants.
All aid is paid directly to the community college and is only applied to tuition and fees and occasionally for textbooks, but not for living expenses.
You many print an application (below) from this website. Applications should be submitted 4 weeks before the beginning of the term for which you are applying.
